FAQ’s regarding wedding photography:

If I am looking for classic/traditional wedding photography, am I in the right place?
No...probably not.  But that being said, you may not actually know what classic/traditional is.  I am a documentary portrait photographer.  I'm interested in photographing you, as unique as you are, with your natural smiles and postures.  I shoot portraits, but they tend to have a photojournalistic feel and be more "in the moment" and less "posed."  Basically, if you like what's on my website...you probably don't want classic/traditional.

What does “documentary photographer” mean?
This basically means that I primarily shoot in a photojournalistic style for your wedding or whatever else you ask me to shoot.  I “document” your day and event so that when you look back at your pictures, it’s not a collection of people lined up, uncomfortable and awkward, but, rather, the actual day and all the emotions and events and moments, both the perfect and the imperfect.

What is online proofing?
How quickly will my pictures be online for previewing?
Online proofing means that your pictures will be available to preview and/or order online.  You will be receive a web address for the location of your online proofing site and that will be available from about two-three weeks after your wedding to 270 days after it goes live (they will not be there forever).

What’s the deal with proofs?  Do I get to keep them?  Do they say “proof” or “kaiti bierdeman photography” on them?  Are they in some kind of album?
I offer actual proofs with my standard and premium rates.  This means you get first generation 4x6 prints of all the finished photographs from your wedding.  They don’t say “proof” or any other fun thing on them.  Just the picture.  All for you.  I don’t want them back.  I wrap them up in a cute little box and then you can pick and choose ones that you want to use for whatever your heart desires.

How does album ordering work?  How do I know I’ll be getting what I want?
Album ordering is not as complicated as it seems like it is.  The first step in ordering an album is contacting me to talk through the process.  You need to decide what style you want (“contemporary magazine” or “grunge”), what size and somewhere between 30 and 40 key images.  From there, you can place the order online to pay with a credit card or send in a check if you’d rather pay with that.  I’ll design all the pages, send you a pdf, get your approval, and then send to the printer.  It takes about 30 days for me to get the album back from the printer.

What’s the difference between the prints I can order from your website and the prints I can order from Walgreens?
In my humble opinion, there really is no comparison.  I know with the “Premium” package you can have prints made wherever you like, but PLEASE let me recommend going to good, high-quality printers…this means you’ll have to pay more, but, really, it’s worth it.  All prints ordered from my store come from a professional lab that I contract all my printing through.  They use the highest quality of paper and inks to produce the best results.  The best.

Do you shoot alone at a wedding or do you have an assistant?
I GENERALLY shoot alone.  I’ve always felt quite comfortable doing that.  I do OCCASIONALLY have an additional shooter, though, who would be some young-buck who is interested in getting into the business and works as my intern.  (If you are interested in being that young-buck, drop me an email!)
